INEC to Convene Emergency Stakeholders Meeting on Edo/Ondo Gubernatorial Elections

...Expresses Readiness For Nassarawa Bye-Elections

The Independent National Electoral commission (INEC), Chairman, Professor Mahmud Yakubu has said the Commission will convene an Emergency Stakeholders Meeting following reports of election campaign Violence in Edo and Ondo states.

 

Professor Yakubu who disclosed this to journalists while in Nassarawa state for on the spot assessment and meeting with stakeholders and traditional leaders in preparation for the state Bye-elections slated for August 8th said the Commission is closely monitoring the situations.

 

The INEC chairman also assured of the Commission's readiness for the Nassarawa central constituency Bye-election, noting that the Electoral umpire remains apolitical and will continue to abide by the wish of the people through the ballot box.

 

On his part, the emir of Nasarawa Ibrahim jibrin said the traditional Council is in support of INECs effort in building strong and virile democracy, acknowledging the fact that elections are never easy.

 

Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the upcoming Nasarawa state constituency Bye-election which is the first-ever during Covid-19 Pandemic is as a result of the death of its member Sulaiman Adamu in April 2020.

 

INEC Chairman clarified that Voters without a facemask or face coverings will not be allowed into the polling units as the electoral process would be done in compliance with all health safety protocols.
